one of my favorite songs is by big country from their mid-80's album 'the seer'. the song called 'eiledon' is very uplifting; a view of hope for a place that doesn't exist in the world today. with all that is going on in the world; terrorism, global warming, etc, the song resonates with me more now than ever.
i came across a site that explained things further;
Webster's Dictionary definition of "eidolon": 1. an unsubstantial image : PHANTOM. 2. : IDEAL.
The first verse of Edgar Allan Poe's "Dream-land":
By a route obscure and lonely,
Haunted by ill angels only,
Where an Eidolon, named NIGHT,
on a black throne reigns upright,
I have reached these lands but newly
From an ultimate dim Thule-
From a weird climate that lieth, sublime,
Out of SPACE - out of TIME.
Stuart Adamson's explanation:
"This was inspired by the poem by Hugh MacDiarmid, Old Man Looking at Thistle." (Guilford, England, 1995)
"a look towards the future, a fictitious thing I invented, a hope" (Melody Maker, March 1986)
